Cheranallore resident Leeba Ratheesh, who was allegedly tortured by the police following her arrest on charge of theft, was moved to a private hospital from the Ernakulam General Hospital here.
Leeba had been undergoing treatment at the hospital for about a month after she was released on bail. She was moved to a ward at the private hospital for further treatment.
“Preliminary scans have confirmed that there is a fracture in her spine. More tests will be conducted in the coming days to decide on the further course of action,” said Cheranallore panchayat member Mini Varghese.
Ernakulam MLA Hibi Eden had earlier said that he would take care of the cost incurred in treating Leeba at the private hospital.
Ms. Varghese, meanwhile, said that she would go on an indefinite fast from Monday onwards if the action council’s demands were not met within two days.
Action council members said that protest marches and meetings would be held in various parts of the city on Saturday demanding the suspension of all officers allegedly involved in the torture.
The main protest meeting will be held at Palarivattom junction on Saturday evening.
