Hundreds of B. Tech students of the School of Engineering at Cochin University of Science and Technology marched to the administrative office on Tuesday morning demanding immediate steps to check the spread of fever on the campus.
Engineering students boycotted classes for the second consecutive day in protest against the alleged laxity on the part of the university authorities in taking preventive measures against the spread of viral fever in various B. Tech hostels on the campus.
They have urged the senior authorities to suspend classes till necessary measures to check the spread of fever are taken. Pointing out that the many students including those coming from North Indian
States had fallen ill during the last two weeks, the agitating engineering students alleged that the authorities had failed to take steps to control the outbreak of the disease. Expressing fears that a few students had also
shown signs of the swine flu, they said that chances of the fever spreading fast were high in the B. Tech hostels on the campus.
Demanding that the authorities should immediately postpone the first year internal examinations scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday, the students said that the officials should also organize a medical check up camp to provide treatment to the affected students.
