The CPI(M) has warned the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation against proceeding with the metro construction works in the SA Road section between Elamkulam and Vyttila without widening the entire stretch.

Party activists have put up banners and flexes cautioning the agency along the three-km stretch. According to them, contractor Soma Constructions has set up barricades before the Dream Hotel, where only single lane traffic is currently possible.

DMRC blamed the problem on shortage of land available for road-widening. “The problem is only for a particular spot and traffic flow is not affected there as we still have 4.5 metres lane on either side. The rest of the section has wide roads,” officials said.

Earlier the CPM activists had halted the metro constructions activities at Edapally over a similar issue.
