Just as the wrangle between the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] over the former accepting expelled CPI(M) leaders into its fold at Udayamperoor has refused to die down, the beleaguered Left front in the district received another cut in the flesh on Friday with the CPI welcoming 72 dissident CPI(M) and Congress workers of Thrikkakara. “Our idea is not to weaken the Left, but to strengthen it. It would be good if the rebels of CPI(M) join our ranks and CPI rebels go to CPI(M). If that doesn’t happen, they will join other formulations which will be detrimental to Left unity,” said CPI district secretary P. Raju.
The CPI State leadership had come under fire from the CPI(M) for issuing memberships to dissident CPI(M) leaders of Udayamperoor.
Those who made a beeline for the CPI on Friday included some prominent CPI(M) rebels, including Mohanan, former branch secretary and local committee member; and Keerthi, active Balasangam worker and daughter of CPI(M) leader Gopakumar.
“Azeez Edachira, who resigned as block secretary of the Congress, was also issued a membership form,” said Mr. Raju. He maintained that 33 of the 43 CPI activists who wished to join the CPI(M) at Neriamangalam made a comeback. The CPI, in a mode to expand its presence at the grassroots, will add dissidents from other parties at Perumbavoor into its ranks at two separate meetings on August 21 and 28.
It will be good if CPI(M) rebels join our ranks and CPI rebels go to CPI(M), says CPI district secretary
