One of the 2010-2011 budget proposals of the Kozhikode Corporation, presented by Deputy Mayor P.T. Abdul Latheef here on Thursday, is to introduce e-governance facility to improve urban services in the city.
New zonal offices will be set up at the grama panchayats of Beypore, Nallalam-Cheruvannur and Elathur that were recently merged with the Corporation. Video-conferencing facility linking these three zonal offices to the main office will also be introduced. An amount of Rs.66.28 lakh has been set aside for e-governance project, he said.
Steps have been taken to establish new Jana Sevana Kendrams at the Medical College, Karaparamba and Meenchanda. Broadband facilities would be provided by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). A sum of Rs.40 lakh had been given to the Kerala State Electricity Board for setting up a sub-station at the Corporation office.
A working women's hostel will be set up at a cost of Rs.40 lakh. A sum of Rs.10 lakh will be given for a festival for women. Women organisations and Kudumbasree volunteers would take part in this annual event.
The Budget has proposed to construct comfort stations for women managed by Kudumbasree volunteers. An amount of Rs.25 lakh has been allotted for the project.
Prof. Latheef said Kudumbasree units engaged in door-to-door collection of garbage would be allocated Rs.1.56 crore for various purposes. The funds would be utilised for purchasing vehicles for transporting garbage. Besides, a sum of Rs.32.9 lakh would be allocated for improving solid waste management. Another Rs.15.5 lakh has been earmarked for a waste treatment plant.
