Collector’s directive to gas firms

District Collector K. Mohammed Y. Safirulla has asked gas companies to address all backlogs in cylinder bookings before Onam.

Backlog of bookings over five days should be identified and distribution made proper, he said at the LPG Coordination Committee meeting at the Collectorate on Wednesday.

Mr. Safirulla also issued directions to supply officers to ensure strict adherence to display of cylinder price on the delivery vehicle for which inspection squads should be formed at the taluk level under Taluk Supply Officers from August 25. Daily reports of examination should be made available which will be reviewed comprehensively at the meeting in end-September.

The Collector has demanded an explanation from distributors for their reluctance to display gas price on the delivery vehicles in the backdrop of widespread complaints over delivery boys overcharging consumers. A direction in this regard had been issued at a meeting on April 4, which was not complied with by many distributors. The Collector criticised City Rationing Officers and Taluk Supply Officers for their failure to carry out inspections to ensure compliance of the direction.

IOC representative said backlog was more in areas such as Vypeen and Kakkanad, while the BPCL representative said that there had been complaints against delivery boys overcharging consumers from the Corporation area.
