District Collector M.G. Rajamanickam has said that steps have been initiated to ensure smooth traffic and pedestrian movements in the city by ensuring coordination between various agencies and departments.

A decision on such a concerted action was taken at a meeting convened by the Collector at the instance of the High Court.

The court issued the order on a public interest litigation seeking solution to the hardship facing pedestrians in the city. The meeting was a prelude to the drawing up of an action plan to resolve the problem.

A joint stock taking will be carried out on the poor condition of roads and footpaths by various agencies and departments. He added that steps would be taken to replace broken slabs on footpaths and fill up potholes.

Stern action against violators

“Stern action is on the anvil against institutions using parking space for other purposes. Illegal encroachments will be demolished. Police will also crack down on illegal parking along roads,” he added.
