The public sector Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has delivered two vessels in two days.
While fast patrol vessel Amartya, the eighth in a series of 20 vessels being built for the Coast Guard, was handed over on Friday, high-end platform support vessel Sea Triumph was delivered to Liberian owners on Thursday.
The protocol of delivery and acceptance for the Coast Guard vessel was signed between CSL director (Operations) Captain R.S. Sundar and commanding officer-designate of Amartya Commandant P.K. Jaswal. The high-speed vessel will be based at New Mangalore and will be used for anti-smuggling, anti-piracy operations and fisheries protection and monitoring.
As for the PSV, it was the last of four such vessels built by the yard for PSV Holding Inc of Liberia.
The PSV, designed by Vard Group AS, Norway, will be used to support offshore oil platforms. The vessel has been assigned the ‘clean design’ notation, signifying highest level of environmental compliance. The ship is fitted with ballast water treatment plant to prevent and eliminate risks to environment arising from transfer of harmful aquatic organisms and pathogens. The vessel, which can accommodate 28 persons, provides high comfort levels and has low noise levels and vibration.
Cochin Shipyard, which has had excellent financial growth over the years, is now making a foray into building LNG carriers and dredgers in the short and medium term.
