Cinemas to remain closed

April 06, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:08 am IST - KOCHI:

The Kerala Film Exhibitors Federation has reiterated that all cinemas in the State will remain closed indefinitely from May 2 onwards if the government fails to withdraw its order to slash the Rs.5 cess per ticket for providing assistance to the ailing members of the film industry to Rs.3.

Token strike

Theatres affiliated to the federation, the Kerala Film Exhibitors Association and malls in the State will observe a token strike on April 7 against the move to reduce the cess amount and to protest against the government move to hand over ticket sales to a private company, said P. V. Basheer Ahamed, president of the exhibitors association, in a release here.

He said that the Cabinet had agreed to hike the cess collected on each ticket from the earlier Rs.3 to Rs.5 based on the talks convened by the Chief Minister.
