Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will flag off the test run of Kochi Metro’s first three-coach train at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Muttom coach depot near Aluva.
The train having turquoise-coloured façade and resembling a robust tusker will have its sides wrapped with Kerala themes like wildlife and art forms. The test runs will continue till February-end, following which trial run on 6-km-long Muttom-Edappally viaduct would begin. The Commissioner for Railway Safety (CRS) will certify the system as safe only on completion of different trials, including integration with communication-based train control (CBTC) for unmanned train operations.
Apart from DMRC’s Principal Advisor E. Sreedharan, DMRC’s MD Mangu Singh, Minister for Power and Railways Aryadan Mohammed and coach manufacturer Alstom Transport’s global president Henri Poupart-Lafarge are expected to participate in the event.
Mr. Sreedharan visited the depot on Friday and reviewed the progress of works.
