Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that the government would step up sports infrastructure in the State.

In his address after laying the foundation stone of the indoor stadium of the Kalamassery municipality here on Saturday, Mr. Chandy said the performance of sportspersons in the State at the national level had gone up considerably.

But we need to improve the overall standards at the national level to reach greater heights in the global scene, he said.

The National Games beginning on January 31 would be a milestone in the State’s sporting history, he said. The government decision to conduct the games in seven districts would help in development of sports in these regions.

Jamal Manakkadan, Chairman of the Kalamassery municipality, said the indoor stadium will become a reality in six months.
