Chamber to set up centre for skill development

The Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry is planning to set up a ‘Skill Development Centre’ in the city. The details of the centre will be announced at ‘Samatva 2015’, an event being held by the chamber next month.

‘Samatva 2015’ is intended to create an annual platform to recognise Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives of companies. It will be organised at the Le Meridien here on March 28.

Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Labour Minister Shibu Baby John will attend the programme, a press release has said. Mohammed Asif Iqbal, Principal Consultant, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, India,  Priya Naik, Founder and Joint Managing Director, Samhita Foundation, Anirbhan Ghosh, Vice President, Sustainability, CSR and Ethics, Mahindra and Mahindra, Archana Sahay, Head – CSR, Cisco Systems and Gayathri Vasudevan, CEO, LabourNet, will be among the speakers.

The press release said the Chamber proposed to give awards for the best CSR practices to Kerala based companies for the year 2013-14 under the following categories: public sector undertakings; private sector – large companies; private sector – small/medium companies and NGOs. A ‘Make a Poster Contest’ for school students and ‘Plan a CSR campaign’ for students of business schools in Kerala will also be held as part of the programme.
