The Rotary Cochin Mid-Town is launching a campaign for creating “water consciousness” among the public. The organisers of the drive said that WAVE, as the campaign was called, was aimed at becoming a part of every person’s water utilisation.
The campaign would be an elaborate one in which all citizens can participate in some way, said the organisers. The idea is to propagate water conservation and reduce water pollution, said Anil Varma, president, and Janardhana Pai, secretary of Rotary Mid-Town, and chairman of WAVE scheme, Subin Thomas, in a press meet here.
To begin with, Rotary will take the issue of water consciousness to the authorities. It would be a long-term project involving students from schools and colleges and would be implemented in various phases.
The first step will be to create awareness through social media about water pollution and various pointers would be indicated on how water could be conserved. Another campaign will be a “I support” campaign on water conservation which would include celebrities. Videos on their support and their opinions would be spread through the social media.A citizen journalist contest will be organised as part of the campaign involving the public, including school and college students. For this, videos with a duration of not more than 5 minutes, showing water wastage or water pollution in one’s locality would have to be sent to the organisers at https://www. facebook.com/rotarycochin
midtown with contact details by January 31.
The long-distance swimming champion Arjun P. Santhosh will be part of the campaign with a 20-km swim from Perumbalam to Marine Drive.
