The 7 edition of the International Aqua show, organised by the Fisheries Department of Kerala through the Fisheries Resource Management Society, will begin at Marine Drive on January 24.

The five-day event will bring together wide variety of ornamental fishes and aquarium accessories from commercial units as well as research institutions, according to a communication from the organisers.

An international seminar and a buyer-seller meet will be held at Bolgatty Palace as part of the events. Fisheries experts including scientists are expected to attend the deliberations. An attempt to document the traditional knowledge of the fishermen of Kerala will be held. Fishermen numbering around 300 are expected to share their traditional wisdom on sea, tidal action, stars, fish and fishery at the session titled “Kadalarivukal.”

Meetings of fish farmers, fishermen meet and entrepreneurs from among fisherwomen will be held. Kids Aqua Gala for teaching children about environment will be organised. Cultural events will also be held as part of the exhibition. A pet show highlighting the proper care for pets, information on animals and environmental protection has been planned.

Competitions on innovative practices, technology and display will he held. For the general public, photography and essay writing competitions on various aspects of fish culture, fish processing and other aspects of fisheries sector will be organised.

A food court featuring fish-based preparations and value-added fish snacks will also be part of the events, the organisers said.
