: The Ernakulam district principal and sessions on Wednesday extended the police custody of Anoop, an alleged Maoist operative and accused in the Nitta Gelatine attack case by one day.
The special investigation team probing the case on Wednesday produced Anoop before the court on expiry of his 14-day custody period. On Thursday, he will be taken back to the Coimbatore Central Jail along with Shyna, another Maoist operative who is under police custody.
While being produced, Anoop submitted that the SIT had forcibly collected his thumb impression on a blank paper. Earlier, he had also raised slogans supporting the protests against Nitta Gelatine at Kathikudam and hailing Maoist operations in the Western Ghats. The case pertains to the ransacking of the Nitta Gelatine office at Panampally Nagar, SBT Avenue Road, on November 11, 2014.
Meanwhile, officials said Anoop had not been cooperating with investigations during the custody period and did not respond to most of the questions. He had even turned violent on occasions during grilling.
Anoop, a native of Pathanamthitta district, was brought to Kochi based on a production warrant, issued on the basis of a request by Bijo Alexander, assistant commissioner of police, Thrikkakara, who is heading the investigation in the case.
Anoop was arrested by the Tamil Nadu Q branch on May 4 and is currently lodged in the Coimbatore Central Jail.
