Noted poet K. G. Sankara Pillai feels that the sense of liberation associated with the Maharaja’s was instrumental in shaping the creativity of passionate movie buffs on the campus.

Prof. Pillai, who had a long stint at the college starting from 1987 and before retiring as Principal in 2003, said the campus had the legacy of extending a creative space for multi-faceted talents.

Terming the young brigade of filmmakers as “brilliant youngsters right from the college days”, he said he was a keen observer of these students. “I have always found most of them in a meditative mood. They were silent but I could feel the reverberations of this silence,” he said. Prof. Pillai said he was proud to have taught these filmmakers at Maharaja’s. “I am happy and relieved that they surpassed our expectations and reached the pinnacle of success in their career. We should accept that they had a deep understanding of the medium right from the days of their campus life,” he said. “They have a long way to go. I am hopeful that they will soon make a mark in world cinema,” he said.
