KOCHI: The Kadavanthra police on Wednesday recovered some of the valuables that had gone missing from the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) chairman’s guest house and the agency’s caged fish farm project office at Mundamveli.
A split air conditioner, sofa set, and a couple of chairs were among the valuables recovered. According to the police, the recovery was made on receiving specific information.
The police said the recovered items had been moved to Mundamveli illegally. GCDA sources said two more split air conditioners, a few kitchen utensils, and three ceiling fans were among the valuables that were still missing.
The issue of missing valuables after former Chairman N. Venugopal vacated the guest house had kicked up a row after the new incumbent C.N. Mohanan assumed charge in December.
Subsequently, GCDA Secretary M.C. Joseph served a liability notice on Mr. Venugopal for recovery of cost of valuables worth ₹1.50 lakh and followed it up with filing a police petition seeking an investigation to trace those responsible for the loss of property on January 5. Mr. Venugopal retaliated by serving a legal notice on the GCDA Secretary for defaming him and seeking a public apology.
Meanwhile, Mr. Venugopal lampooned Wednesday’s recovery, reminding that he had already told the media that an air conditioner and a sofa set had been shifted to the Mundamveli office.
