KOCHI: Families who were forcefully evicted for the Vallarpadam International Container Transshipment Terminal connectivity gathered at Menaka to observe the ninth anniversary of their eviction, which has over the years come to be known as Moolampilly Day.

A rally was taken out from Mother Teresa Square to Menaka where a public meeting was convened under the aegis of the Coordination Committee for Families Displaced by Development Projects.

Inaugurating the meeting, the Auxiliary Bishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese, Sebastian Edayanthrath, said the event was not just a reminder to the authorities to fulfil their promises to the evicted families but also a warning that the victims could not be taken for granted. He urged the government to implement the rehabilitation package without any further delay.

Francis Kalathungal, general convener of the committee, said it wanted to go hand-in-hand with the government in the implementation of the rehabilitation package. Hibi Eden, MLA, and social activists were also present.
