Bhadrananda held for bid to incite communal hatred

The Ernakulam North police on Tuesday arrested controversial spiritual leader Swami Himaval Bhadrananda on charges of attempting to incite communal hatred through social media.

A team led by Circle Inspector T.B. Vijayan nabbed the accused while he was returning from the Paravur Additional Sessions Court after appearing in the hearing of a case related to opening fire at the Aluva police station in 2008.

The police registered a suo motu case against him after noticing complaints that Himaval Bhadrananda used to post derogatory comments against various religions on his Facebook page.

He was later produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Ernakulam.

Meanwhile, the session’s court posted the pronouncing of verdict in the Aluva case to January 12. It was on May 17, 2008 that the police grabbed the pistol from Bhadrananda. .
