The police, who conducted a surprise check on Monday, caught 15 persons, including a school bus driver, on charge of drunk driving.
The inspection was held at Aluva Bank Kavala for three hours from 6 a.m. Besides the school bus driver, three private bus drivers and a tanker lorry driver were also found driving drunk. Around 10 private bus employees too were caught for the offense.
“The checking was done following complaints by commuters of rude behaviour by private bus staff after having drinking sessions late night,” said Vishal Johnson, Circle Inspector of Police. The driver of the school bus was found inebriated even while transporting 20 school students.
Licence cancellation
Besides registering cases against all of them, the police have recommended to the Regional Transport Authority cancellation of their driving licences.
Many of the private buses parked in the Aluva bus stand often turn into “exclusive party halls” of bus employees late at night.
“Instances of some drivers consuming ganja or similar drugs besides alcohol have come to our notice’’, officials said.
