Youths posing as rag-pickers burgle houses

A gang of six youngsters posing as rag-pickers and breaking into locked houses in night was busted by the police on Monday.

Stolen gold and silver ornaments worth Rs. 14.20 lakh were recovered. North zone DCP Ch. Srikanth said the accused -- all in their early 20s – burgled 15 houses in Bolarum, Begumpet, Trimulgherry, Marredpally, Tukaramgate and Bowenpally. Childhood friends from Addagutta area, they were arrested in similar cases before.

Due to financial problems, they dropped out of schools. In their bid to lead a lavish lifestyle, they began resorting to small thefts and later house burglaries.

They were arrested in 2011 and 2012.

The gang returned to their crime path soon after coming out from prison.

A special team led by Bollarum police station Inspector T. Laxminarayana caught the gang and recovered the stolen property.

The accused were D.S. Arjun, J. Durga, P. Durga Rao, P. Yesu Raja, P. Prathap and P. Srikanth.
