Road congestion is a daily experience for scores of motorists using the two-lane road between Safilguda and Secunderabad that goes through defence land. For years the efforts made by citizens and residential associations to decongest this road has only met with various road blocks.
But for the harried motorists who prefer this route to commute, there could be some good news at last. Recently, Congress leaders from Malkajgiri submitted a memorandum to the Ministry of Defence to allow the expansion of the road, said AICC member Subba Rao Vaddi.
“This route is taken by thousands of motorists everyday and pressure on other routes towards Secunderabad can be reduced by widening it,” he pointed out. The railway level crossing at Safilguda, too, would be addressed soon as work on the Uttamnagar road under bridge (RuB) is all set to begin, he said.
The four-lane RuB work is set to cost Rs. 31 crore.
“The work will begin soon paving way for a smoother ride on this road,” he added.
The Uttamnagar RuB, a single-lane passage and about 200 metres from Safilguda level crossing, gets clogged each time the gate is closed, resulting in unending traffic snarls during office-going hours.
