She looks like any other woman. But what sets her apart is her bravery that helped the police catch a chain-snatcher.

A housewife, Geetanjali of Kalyanapuri (east) in Uppal, chased, caught and thrashed a chain-snatcher after the latter snatched her ‘mangalsutra’. All this while her two children aged 10 and 7 respectively were with her. The man was later handed over to the police. Her bravery did not go unnoticed. The Uppal colony welfare association and few women’s organisations felicitated her. The Cyberabad police too are planning to felicitate her shortly.

It was Thursday afternoon when Geetanjali was returning home after picking up her children from school. As she was walking on Street Number 1 in the colony, a youngster came on a motorcycle and snatched her ‘mangalsutra’. “Initially, I was shocked and did not know what to do. But I ran after him as I wanted my ornament back,” she recalled. Seeing her courage, a cab driver also chased the offender. Noticing that he was being chased, the chain-snatcher stopped his bike, took a turn and zoomed towards Geetanjali. “As the man came closer, I lunged at him and caught hold of his collar. He fell down and I did too. Some locals rushed to the spot and caught him,” Geetanjali recalls.
