Goshamahal legislator of the BJP T. Raja Singh on Tuesday said he would oppose the presence of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in his constituency where the latter was scheduled to address a public meeting at Nizam College on March 19.
Last week, Mr. Singh had uploaded a video on social media recounting the attacks on BJP and RSS workers allegedly by CPI (M) activists in Kerala. The MLA also called Mr. Vijayan anti-Hindu and urged the Telangana police to stop his arrival to attend the programme. He warned the State government and the police of serious consequences if the permission was not revoked and said he would go to any extent to stop Mr. Vijayan’s arrival.
Not getting a replay from the police, Mr. Singh shot off another letter to DGP Anurag Sharma on Tuesday, reiterating his demand. In the letter, he said he was not opposed to a meeting of the CPI (M) but he would not allow the Kerala CM in his constituency. He had no problem if Mr. Vijayan’s meeting was held elsewhere in the city.
A senior police officer, on condition of anonymity, said the permission given to Mr. Vijayan’s meeting could not be revoked on the basis of Mr. Singh’s letter but his demand warranted them to take all measures required to ensure maintenance of law and order.
Mr. Raja Singh said “due to violence unleashed on BJP and RSS workers in Kerala, I cannot allow him in my constituency. Vijayan is the main accused in the murder of a RSS worker in 1969.”
On his Facebook wall where he had posted the video, Mr. Singh urged his followers to ensure cancellation of March 19 meeting.
When asked if he had the backing of the BJP’s State unit since he had mentioned his intention to oppose the meeting with both RSS and BJP support, Mr. Singh said he was doing it in his personal capacity but had kept the party’s state president K. Laxman informed.
“I was told to go ahead in my personal capacity since it is in my constituency,” Mr. Singh said.
