Traffic cones put up by Lalithaa Jewellery at Somajiguda showroom guiding its customers to parking lot, is eating into the road meant for general traffic.

Penalty for leaving vehicle at no-parking zone, silence over private persons using road space for commercial purpose!

A newly opened jewellery shop management has put cones on the road at Monappa Island in Begumpet and is using the space for its customers to alight from vehicles. Vehicles coming from Punjagutta Y flyover and Punjagutta junction get choked before the shop as the road space has shrunk with the placing of cones.

The space generated by placing the cones in front of the shop is being used exclusively for the customers coming to the shop. Private security guards, apparently hired by the shop owners, stand along the cone and guide the customers to use the carriageway for alighting from their vehicles.

“Will the traffic police spare me if I also keep cones on the road and use the public road for commercial purpose? Why these double standards in taking action?” asks Srikanth Reddy who passes by the road frequently. In fact, people are forced to walk on the main road and run the risk of bumping against oncoming vehicles because of the cones.

The pavement has disappeared because of the cones. As vehicles of the customers coming to the jewellery shop use the carriageway, walkers have no option but use the crowded main road. Hyderabad Traffic Police DCP L.S. Chauhan said that already a notice was served on the shop management to mend their ways.

“ ..... customers coming to the showroom are alighting and parking their vehicles on the carriageway causing inconvenience to the free flow of traffic,” the notice stated. Mr. Chauhan said the shop proprietor was instructed to arrange alighting and picking points separately. Otherwise, action would be initiated against them, the DCP said.

Almost similar situation is witnessed on the road where three to four private hospitals and offices are located. Ambulances are parked on the road and cones are kept to make it appear as an exclusive space.

For reasons best known to officials, no action is initiated even when violations are there for everyone to see.
