To popularise American football in Hyderabad, the Elite Football League of India will be organising an exhibition match at Begumpet Police Stadium here on July 20 featuring Hyderabad Skykings and Bangalore Hawks. The EFL league features six Indian teams besides two teams from Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Hyderabad-based franchisee Skykings and owned by Non-Resident Indian Venkatesh Movva has roped in film star Sumanth as the brand ambassador. . “I am sure that this sport will be very popular soon in Hyderabad and across India too after the next edition of EFL 2013. It will also be telecast live on Ten Sports,” Mr. Venkatesh said. “We will make every effort to create massive awareness to tap the new fan base very soon,” he said.

The Hyderabad Skykings CEO said that an artificial turf is being planned at the Gachibowli Stadium at its own cost. “We are in the process of finalising an agreement with the government on utilising the ground. The turf can be used for other sports too,” he said.

“American football is a beautiful sport known for its deafening horns, cymbals and blockbuster explosions. I am excited to be part of this Hyderabad team and wish it does well,” Mr. Sumanth said. He also unveiled the jersey of the Hyderabad Skywings and presented the team members -- Sridhar, Srikar, Ravikiran and Naveen -- before the media. The players have been split into two categories - Group A and B and will be paid Rs.15,000 and Rs.12,000 per month respectively.
