Former Andhra Pradesh Minister M. Mukesh Goud's son M. Vikram Goud, who was accused of orchestrating an attempt on his life using a gang of hired attackers, was arrested by Hyderabad police on Thursday.

He was presented before a local court and remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. The accused was shifted to Chanchalguda Central Prison.

Vikram was arrested from a corporate hospital in Jubilee Hills where he underwent treatment after sustaining two bullet wounds in the early hours of July 28. While he alleged that a helmet wearing assailant barged into his house and fired two rounds at him, investigators suspected his claims.

After five days of investiation, they found that he had hired a gang by offering a supari of ₹50 lakh to shoot him without endangering his life. He did so to derive political mileage in Assembly elections in 2019 and settle money disputes he had with his business partners, the police said.

Five members of the gang were arrested on Wednesday. A country-made firearm used by them was recovered from them.
