V-Cs appointed for 7 universities

The Telangana government on Monday appointed S. Ramachandram, professor of Computer Science and Engineering at University College of Engineering of Osmania University (OU) as the Vice-Chancellor of the same university.

The appointment along with those of six other universities in the State, including Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) here and Kakatiya University (KU) in Warangal, comes a day after the government decided to organise the centenary celebrations of OU, scheduled next year, on a grand scale.

A. Venugopal Reddy, a retired professor of Computer Science and Engineering at OU, has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of JNTU while R. Sayanna, a retired professor of Physics also at OU, has been chosen as the V-C of Kakatiya University in Warangal that was the focal point of the movement for statehood to Telangana along with OU a few years ago.

Similarly, the government has appointed K. Seetharama Rao, a retired professor of Public Administration and Human Resource Management in KU as the Vice-Chancellor of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University here and S.V. Satyanarayana, a retired Professor of Telugu at OU as the Vice-Chancellor of Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University.

Further, P. Sambaiah, a retired professor of Public Administration and Human Resource Management at KU, has been appointed the Vice-Chancellor of Telangana University at Dichpally in Nizamabad while B. Rajarathnam, a professor of Commerce at OU, as the Vice-Chancellor of Palamuru University in Mahabubnagar.

All the Vice-Chancellors have been appointed for a term of three years from the date of appointment, subject to the outcome of a writ petition (PIL) pending in the High Court with regard to the appointment of Vice-Chancellors.

All these universities were being administered by special officers or in-charges for long.
