It is not the first time that transport agent M. Vamshi Krishna’s name cropped up in police records.

Vamshi Krishna, who was arrested by Hyderabad police on Thursday for allegedly sending a hoax email to Mumbai police about hijacking of flights, was earlier arrested twice in two criminal cases.

He entered police records seven years ago when he along with three other associates barged into a house in S.R. Nagar.

“Claiming that he was a reporter of a noted Telugu TV news channel, Vamshi Krishna accused a woman living in the house of operating a brothel,” police sources said.

Threatening to telecast “her illegal activities”, Vamshi Krishna allegedly demanded that he be paid ₹50,000. The First Information Report (crime no. 411/2010) of Sanjeev Reddy Nagar Police Station states that even as the woman refused to comply with his demand, he opened an almirah there and snatched ₹20,000 and two mobile phones and fled.

Another case was registered against him by the Hyderabad Central Crime Station sleuths in 2013 for allegedly relieving a woman of ₹6.2 lakh with false assurances of marrying her. The woman’s family members contacted Vamshi Krishna having seen his details on a matrimonial website. He took the money citing some ‘emergency’.

Stating that he was interested in marrying the woman, the accused started contacting her over phone. He led the woman and her family members to believe that he would marry them. “Citing some emergency, he began requesting her to send him money. On different occasions, the woman sent ₹6.2 lakh to him,” the CCS officials said.

Eventually, the woman realised that Vamshi Krishna was not genuinely interested in the marriage. Based on the complaint lodged by her family members, the police registered a cheating case against him. He was arrested and lodged in prison for nearly 40 days in that case.
