Urdu journalist dead

Senior journalist Shareef Aslam, who died in Jeddah on December 28, was associated with many Urdu newspapers in Hyderabad. He also worked as a columnist for The Siasat Daily for many years and contributed to the Inqilab of Mumbai. He was 79 and is survived by wife and two sons.

Mr. Aslam shifted to Jeddah some 35 years ago, but continued to write for the Urdu newspapers in Hyderabad. He was actively associated with many literary and cultural organisations in Saudi Arabia and was very popular with the Indian community there.

He served as the president of Zinda Dilan, and secretary of Bazme Urdu, Jeddah. The news of Mr. Aslam’s death was received with shock and grief in Hyderabad.
