Two Inter students drown in pond

February 03, 2012 10:38 am | Updated 10:38 am IST - HYDERABAD:

A picnic turned into a tragedy for two Intermediate students on Thursday. Niyamat Ali and Shakeer, both aged about 18 years and hailing from Golconda and Langer Houz, went to Gandipet along with seven other classmates. After spending some time there, the students went to a pond down the lake around 1.30 p.m.

“Shakeer slipped in the pond after entering it and started screaming for help when Ali tried to rescue him by extending his hand,” the Narsingi Sub-Inspector P. Anjaiah said. Ali tried to pull his friend out, but a panic-stricken Shakeer pulled him inside. Both got drowned while their friends standing on the bank watched helplessly, the SI said. They were second year students of Froebel Vocational Junior College in Mehdipatnam.
