Two persons in possession of ₹ 6.2 lakh in fake ₹ 2,000 currency notes were arrested by the Special Operations Team (SOT), Rachakonda police. The main accused Sakethwala Ramesh, who was convicted for the same crime in November last year along with some others, had stashed away the money before he went to jail in the house of Mohd. Riyaz, the second accused, said an official.

According to Narsing Rao, inspector, SOT, ₹ 6.2 lakh was seized from Riyaz’s house in Ibrahimpatnam. He and Ramesh were trying to circulate the fake notes in the market. “They had printed the notes using two xerox machines, which were seized last November,” he said.

After Ramesh was released from prison on January 20, he along with Riyaz and Mohd. Hazi, a third accused who is currently absconding, decided to circulate the fake notes. On credible information about their racket, the SOT officials raided Riyaz’s house on Wednesday and made the arrests.

The development comes three days after the Begumpet and Banjara Hills police arrested many people in separate cases, who were in possession of ₹ 2.4 crore in demonetised currency of ₹ 1,000 and ₹ 500.
