Two held for promising jobs and cheating people

The Cyberabad police on Wednesday arrested two persons on charges of cheating people by promising them jobs in corporate companies. The police recovered property worth Rs. 2.6 lakh and Rs. 40,000 cash from them.

The arrested persons, V. Radha Krishna, 33, of Addagutta and P. Millu Singh, 33, of Kharkhana in the city collected the data of persons who posted their resumes in job search portals. Later, they would call them over phone and introduce themselves as senior representatives of a corporate company and collect money from them, the police said.

The duo was arrested after a woman lodged a complaint 10 days ago. One of the accused called her on phone and introduced himself as HR team leader of Tech Mahindra, Pune. He said that there was recruitment for Java software developer in the company and conducted her interview. A job offer letter was also sent to convince her. The duo collected Rs. 80,000 as deposit from her. However, when the woman went to the company with the job letter she was told it was not issued by the company. The accused were earlier involved in another case where in they cheated a man of Rs. 1.20 lakh.

The modus operandi was that they would call unemployed people from ‘crazycall’ site and make them believe the call is from a multinational company. Thereafter they would conduct mock interviews and issue fake job letters from, the police said.
