The State government’s flagship double-bedroom housing scheme has come as a ray of hope for the poorer sections in Chinna Mulkanoor village of Chigurumamidi mandal, which was also adopted village by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
About 247 families have secured double-bedroom houses and are living comfortably. On the other hand, the demand for houses is still increasing in the village, after witnessing the amenities provided, which includes solar street lamps. The beneficiaries of the Indiramma housing scheme in the village are also urging elected representatives and officials for the sanction of double-bedroom housing scheme. Reports claim that some people are even demolishing their old houses in the hope of new ones being constructed.
The tiny Chinna Mulkanoor village has a population of 2,058 with 681 houses. It had hit the headlines when the CM visited the village in July 2015 as part of Haritha Haram programme and announced that he was adopting it. He visited the village again in August 2015 and participated in a massive shramdhan programme by involving officials.
CM’s visit
The CM inspected the village and saw several dilapidated houses. This prompted him to announce the sanction of 247 double-bedroom houses at a cost of ₹15.54 crore. Initially, the scheme progressed at snail’s pace and beneficiaries who were forced to demolish their houses were shelterless for a few months.
However, the construction gained momentum when Megha Engineering Infrastructure (MEIL) took over the job.
Almost all the 247 houses have been completed and some beneficiaries are already living in the new houses. However, some others are yet to occupy the premises, hoping that Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao would visit their village and perform a mass gruha pravesham (housing warming) ceremony, as promised by him earlier.
Paidipalli Tirupathi, who had earlier rented a house at ₹1,000 per month, now possesses a double-bedroom house, living happily with his family of three. “I am very happy to live comfortably with all facilities in the new house,” he said. Some of the beneficiaries were even rearing cattle and poultry in new houses.
Sarpanch Makutam Rajaiah said that there was an overwhelming response to the double-bedroom housing scheme in the village. Though the government had constructed 247 houses, over 100 new beneficiaries had come forward and applied for the double-bedroom houses, he said. After seeing the new houses with many facilities, people are preferring double-bedroom houses instead of Indiramma houses, he stated.
