A TV artiste Pradeep ended his life by hanging in his flat at Narsingi in the early hours of Wednesday after an argument with his wife Pavani, the police said.

Precise reasons behind his death are not yet known. No suicide note was found in the flat at Alkapuri Colony of Puppalaguda where he hanged himself to death with a sari. Pradeep, popular for his lead role in Telugu TV serial Saptamatrikalu , fell in love with Pavani, also a TV artiste, and married her a year ago. He returned home around 10 p.m. on Tuesday after completing the ongoing shoot of a serial.

Pradeep’s close friend Sravan too was living in the same flat for the past three months. “As it was Sravan’s birthday on Tuesday, they started partying soon after Pradeep returned from the serial shoot,” Narsingi Inspector P. Ramchander Rao said.

Sravan and Pradeep consumed liquor till 2 a.m. on Wednesday. “Around that time, he went down for smoking,” the investigators said. An hour later, Pradeep came upstairs.

“Angered over the delayed return, Pavani took him to task saying she was worried. Pradeep too became furious and smashed a mirror with his hand,” they explained. Apparently having lost his cool, he seemed to have thrown the liquor bottle too on the ground, the investigators observed.

He told Pavani not to disturb him further with any questions. Asking her to wake him up at 5.30 a.m. because he had to attend the shoot, he went inside the bedroom and bolted from inside.

Pavani knocked on the door around 5.30 a.m. As he didn’t respond, she even rang up his mobile phone. Finally, she and Sravan broke open the doors only to see Pradeep hanging from the ceiling with a sari tied around his neck. They immediately called a radiologist, who was known to them and lived nearby. After the radiologist examined Pradeep, they called up 108 ambulance. On arrival, the ambulance staff confirmed he was dead.

A case of suspicious death under Section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code was registered.
