Executive director of the Greater Hyderabad Zone of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) A. Purushotham Naik was allegedly attacked by three employees as one of them was enraged that he was not being reinstated to a post of his choice.

Marredpally police said that the incident took place around 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police identified the trio as Mazhar Ahmed, V.N. Reddy and Venugopal. All three were suspended from service on various charges in the past.

According to Marredpally inspector, after being suspended, Mr. Ahmed had petitioned the TSRTC with a request that he be reinstated. Following the request, he was subsequently posted at the Hyderabad Central University Bus Depot.

“Ahmed wanted to be reinstated to the Medchal Bus Depot, where he was previously working. He told his friends V.N. Reddy and Venugopal to accompany him to the executive director’s office to speak to him. He went into the office and demanded Mr. Naik deploy him at the Medchal depot. He then hit Mr. Naik with a chair. His two accomplices too assaulted Mr. Naik,” Bowenpally inspector A. Srinivasulu said.

Mr. Naik sustained injuries on his head and neck. He is on leave.

Case booked

A case has been booked under relevant sections of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and also under Section 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

On Thursday, the TSRTC Employees Union condemned the attack. The union demanded that Transport Minister P. Mahender Reddy order a probe into the incident.

The body demanded that measures be taken to protect officials from such assaults.
