Telangana introduced yet another reform in the medical and health sector by launching the online drug licensing system.

Health Minister C. Laxma Reddy launched the website designed by National Informatics Centre – http://odls.telangana.gov.in/

After the e-aushadi, Arogyasri app, and online registration for KCR Kits, online drug licensing was the latest reform that used technology to serve people better and ease the process of doing business by reducing the timeline, he said.

Addressing media persons here on Friday, Dr. Laxma Reddy said the online system would make drug licensing process hassle-free, and applicants did not have to make rounds of the Drug Control Administration for licence and renewal.

The online system would allow application submission, payment, verification, issue of licence, tracking, monitoring etc. for issuing manufacturing and sale licences.

Relevant documents

The relevant documents should be uploaded and licence fee paid online or through challan. If found ineligible, the application would be rejected.

The Minister also announced introduction of Medical Education and Research in Telangana (MERIT) under which students and professors can apply for funding online.

The Government had allocated ₹12 crore for research in medical education.

Facilities and ambience

Listing out the reforms to improve facilities and ambience in government hospitals and health centres, he said that by month-end 20 Area and District Hospitals would have ICUs so that people from rural areas did not have to rush to the city for emergency services.

Four of the ICUs were already functional, he said.

On the controversy related to surrogacy and clinical trials, he said that all these years there had been no checks, but now the Government would monitor them.

For regulation of clinical trials, an act was already passed and rules were being framed.

He said that the number of patients in the Fever Hospital had come down and it was a reflection of the preventive measures being taken by the Government. Treatment of varicose veins would also be included under the Arigyasri Arogya Shri and more wellness centres would be set up for government employees and journalists.
