‘TRS trying to poach New Democracy cadre’

August 07, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:14 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The CPI(ML) New Democracy has levelled allegations against the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, saying the ruling party is trying to poach its cadre in pockets of Khammam district by targeting its workers from Aadivasi and Dalit communities.

Leaders of the party, while addressing a press conference here on Saturday, alleged that Aadivasis in Paloncha and Illendu mandals were being harassed by the police, and forest officials.

The police, actively led by a DSP, were burning crops in villages and slapping false cases against the cadre upon instigation by ruling party members, additional secretary of the party Potu Ranga Rao, and former MLA of Illendu Gummadi Narsaiah alleged.

Even women were not being spared, as 26 women in Tekulapalli and 28 from Illendu mandals, and 14 more from Badru Tanda had been slapped with “false cases and sent to jail”, they said.

“Women sarpanches and even pregnant women have been jailed. When we obtained bail, they slapped fresh cases, and refused to release them,” Jhansi, another leader, said.

The party had already given representations to Home Minister Naini Narasimha Reddy and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, but the attacks had continued, Vemulapalli Venkatramayya, another leader, said.

“Current establishment has declared war against the poor and the Aadivasis. They have burnt the crop even after showing the pattas granted under the Forest Rights Act,” Mr.Narsaiah alleged, and demanded action against the officials responsible.

Protest would be organised across the State on August 7 and 8 against the harassment and violation of Aadivasi’s rights, the party said.
