Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s announcement to form the Nizamabad Urban Development of Authority (NUDA) has raised hopes among aspirants in the ruling party.

Even before the shape and constitution of the new body has been decided a number of Telangana Rashtra Samiti leaders are strongly aspiring to become its chairman.

NUDA is tentatively have in its jurisdiction over 59 villages in Nizamabad rural, Dichpally, Makloor, Yedapally and Navipet mandals and a couple of villages in Renjal mandal. The initial announcement had drawn up the jurisdiction over a radius of 25 kilometers from the city.

Though the government had given a hint that the NUDA would be formed, but the exercise has not yet begun. However, if it is formed on the model of Hyderabad Urban Development Authority, it would need to have a separate set up with a nominated chairman and an IAS officer as vice-chairman cum managing director and at least another three or four members. According to reliable sources in the TRS four leaders — senior advocate M. Rajender Reddy, party district president Eega Ganga Reddy, Sujith Singh Takur and Dharmapuri Sanjay — are seriously vying for the coveted post. However, Sanjay told The Hindu that he is not in the fray for the post and nor was he trying for it.

Proximity matters

The remaining three seem to be serious about the post and making attempts through their channels. Sujith who is a close aide of local MLA Bigala Ganesh Gupta reportedly secured his assurance while Rajender Reddy and Ganga Reddy are relying on Member of Parliament K. Kavitha.

Sujith being senior in the party and worked for it since its establishment is confident of getting the post. Eega Ganga Reddy appears to have support from other important leaders and being party district president he is considered close to all. Since, among the nominated posts only chairman NUDA and chairman district granthalaya samstha remain to be filled, the competition is tough.

All the aspirants despite all their efforts are aware that the posts would finally be filled by the Chief Minister only with the concurrence of Ms. Kavitha.
