The Congress party has lashed out at the TRS government for giving priority to politics and throwing to the winds the burning issues concerning the common man, particularly the farming sector.
At the coordination committee meeting of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chaired by president Ponnala Lakshmaiah, party leaders came down heavily on the government for turning a blind eye to the spate of farmer suicides and severe power cuts.
The meeting, attended by CLP leader K. Jana Reddy, Leader of the Opposition in the Council D. Srinivas, TPCC working president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, former Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy and others squarely blamed the negligent attitude of the government for the suicides and indecision on overcoming the power crisis. They also accused the TRS government of encouraging defections to demoralise the Opposition. They questioned the lackadaisical attitude of the government in not taking note of farmers’ suicides. While over 300 farmers have ended their lives in the last few months, the government was not ready to accept them officially, they charged.
At a press conference after the meeting, Mr. Ponnala Lakshmaiah and others wondered as to why the TRS government had not sent a report on farmers’ suicides as sought by the Centre. They also ridiculed the Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, for not having time to visit Delhi and meet the Power Minister. They pointed out that there was no forward movement on the farm loan waiver issue and the government was unable to reel out statistics of martyrs and dengue deaths. They accused the government of failing to govern the State properly and faltering on every issue.
Earlier, Congress leaders led by Mr. Ponnala Lakshmaiah paid tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to mark her death anniversary.
