Member of Parliament K. Kavitha has said the TRS Government is committed to solve the problems of ‘jogini’ women and ‘potharajus’ as early as possible by studying the 2013 recommendations of the Justice Raghunatha Rao Commission.

Addressing the joginis and potharajus from Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Nirmal, Adilabad and Karimnagar districts at her residence, here on Monday, she said that she was aware of their problems and recalled having played bathukamma with jogini women. She promised them of bringing the issue to the notice of Social Welfare Minister G. Jagadeeswar Reddy and arrange a meeting with their representatives.

The Raghunatha Rao Commission was set up in 2011 to study their problems. Jogini also called mathangi system in certain areas is an age old social stigma in which young women belonging to lowest rung of society are left free in the name of God in villages. The system was prevalent in north Telangana, however, it is extinct now.
