A 40-year-old tribal woman was allegedly gang-raped by three persons in a forest area at Choudapur village in Ranga Reddy district on Sunday night.
The victim, a native of Erlavagu thanda, and two other women came to Choudapur on some work in the afternoon.
She was waiting for transport in the evening to return home, when a motorcyclist Ramesh approached her and offered to drop her at her house.
Ramesh’s friends Mahesh and Anji followed them. After travelling some distance, the trio stopped their vehicles on the roadside and forcibly took her to an isolated place and raped her.
On hearing her screams, a rights activist Ravi who was passing by rescued her, said Chevella Deputy Superintendent of Police K. Shilpa Valli.
Based on the victim’s complaint, the police booked a case under relevant provisions of IPC and detained Ramesh, Mahesh and Anji. While Ramesh and Anji were working as labourers, Ramesh was running a fast food centre in Choudapur, the police said.
B.Sc student held for rape attempt
A B.Sc. student was caught by the city police for allegedly trying to sexually assault a woman at his house in Jubilee Hills on Sunday.
The student invited the woman staying in the same building to his house to check the gas stove that developed a snag and tried to violate her. Based on a complaint, the police registered a case and nabbed him.
