Traffic on the busy Begumpet flyover came to a standstill during the peak hours on Tuesday morning after a cement-laden truck rammed into a road-divider early in the morning.
It took around four hours for the traffic police to remove the truck and restore normal movement of vehicular traffic.
Scores of students and people going to their offices, including techies using the thoroughfare to reach the Hi-Tec City, were forced to take long detours from Ministers’ Road, Balanagar and Paradise stretch.
Meanwhile, those already caught in the traffic jam restlessly spent close to two hours to pass through the site.
Although the accident occurred in the early hours of the day, it took sometime for the authorities to judge that it could lead to a massive traffic jam.
After the cement bags were unloaded into two DCM vehicles, the truck was brought down from the divider and towed away with the help of a crane.
“After the truck rammed into the divider around 6 a.m., its axle broke down leading to traffic slowdown on a side of the Begumpet flyover. We diverted traffic at CTO Junction and Rasoolpura Crossroads as an alternative measure. Banners were also put up at the junctions to guide the motorists,” said Begumpet Traffic Inspector S. Sudharshan.
