Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has announced his plans to go on surprise visits to see for himself plantations as part of the ongoing Haritha Haram from Monday.
He will simultaneously assess the involvement of elected representatives and officials to assign them performance ratings.
“I have been receiving information through different sources and based on that their efficiency and initiative in public utility programmes is being assessed,” the Chief Minister said at a review meeting held on the programme here on Friday.
Ministers, legislators, other elected representatives and officials should engage themselves in the Haritha Haram programme itself and he would participate in it without giving notice in advance.
Involvement in Haritha Haram would not only be a key indicator to the performance of legislators, other elected representatives and officials but the Ministers too, the Chief Minister said adding that everyone of them should prepare an action plan to plant and protect saplings as part of the government plan to plant 46 crore saplings this season.
The Chief Minister also spoke to Ministers acting as district in-charges of the programme over phone and enquired about the progress and made several suggestions.
The meeting was attended by Minister T. Harish Rao, Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma, Principal Secretary in CMO S. Narasing Rao, Special Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi, senior official K. Ramakrishna Rao, Navin Mittal and others.
‘Use fire tenders’
Stating that there was conducive atmosphere this season for plantation drive owing to good rains, the Chief Minister said planted sapling should not be allowed to wither under any circumstances.
Alternative arrangements for watering the saplings should be made in the event of dry spells in between. Fire tenders should be used for the purpose wherever they were available and the drivers should be provided with wireless communication sets for giving information for rushing to the areas of fire accidents, if any.
The gram panchayats and municipalities should make use of locally available tankers for watering the saplings during the dry spells.
There was no shortage of funds for protection of planted saplings as Rs. 1,500 crore Compensatory AfforestationFund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) funds were available for the purpose, officials said in a press release quoting the Chief Minister.
Besides, other funds were also available for protection of saplings planted as part of the Haritha Haram programme.
