Three minor girls were allegedly raped in separate incidents in the city and suburbs since Tuesday.
A 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by an unidentified person in an isolated place on Sagar Road near Turkayamjal under Vanasthalipuram police station limits on Tuesday. The girl, a 10 class student, who went missing two days ago, was found weeping by the roadside on Wednesday morning, after which local residents rescued her and called the police.
“The girl said an unidentified person had violated her,” said ACP (Vanasthalipuram) L. Anand Bhaskar. The girl, said to be mentally disturbed, later told police that she went to her friend’s house two days agofor attending a religious ceremony. Her friend dropped her at Turkayamjal after the function and left. A few minutes later, an unidentified person lured her to a secluded place and raped her. Based on the complaint lodged by the girl’s family members, the police registered a rape case.
At Kukatpally Housing Board (KPHB) Colony, a hotel worker was detained by police on Wednesday on charges of raping an eight-year-old girl at an isolated place between the Hitec City and KPHB Colony. The accused identified as Vasudevan (35) of Borabanda lured the girl staying in the neighbourhood promising to buy biscuits and took her to a secluded place and violated her. Residents alerted the police after seeing her crying on the road. “With the information given by the girl, we detained Devan,” confirmed KPHB Inspector A. Gangaram.
In the third case, a 56-year-old carpenter Girish sexually assaulted a minor girl at Pedakamela Basti in Trimulgherry, the police said. When the victim’s parents went to office, the accused lured the victim offering chocolates and committed the crime. The police took Girish into custody.
