Three juveniles, allegedly involved in two murders, were taken into custody during a cordon and search operation at Mongerbasti in Habeebnagar in the early hours of Tuesday. The killings were reported in Habeebnagar and Nampally police station limits in the last two weeks.

“The juveniles are addicted to whitener fluid and killed two rag pickers sleeping on pavements by throwing boulders on them. There was no motive to the killings,” DCP (West) V. Satyanarayana said.

The police charged that many families residing in the neighbourhood are involved in property offences like pocket picking and chain snatchings and noted criminals stay there. The police also took into custody 58 suspects including 13 women and seized Rs. 68,000, six motorcycles, gold ornaments, 20 cell phones and two water pumps apart from twelve receipts of private finance companies.

About 300 police personnel who took part in the operation divided themselves into 35 teams. While a few teams cordoned off the area others conducted a door-to-door search. The police also collected fingerprints of the suspects and plan to send it to State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) for verification.

Mr. Satyanarayana assured that the police will not cause any inconvenience to the public during the cordon and search operation. “Our main purpose is to infuse confidence in the citizens and at the same time act tough against the criminals,” he said.
