Two days after immersion of the ‘Maha Ganapati’ idol of Khairatabad, devotees in large numbers thronged the venue on Thursday for ‘prasadam’ from the huge 5,000 kg laddu of the idol.
Following the decision of Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samiti to distribute part of the offering to devotees, thousands started to line up since 6 a.m. and by noon, large serpentine queues were seen. The samiti members and police, having anticipated a considerable turnout, had set up barricades but the crowd spilled over and the distribution process went on amid jostling and pushing for some time.
The massive laddu was prepared Sri Bhaktanjaneya’s Suruchi Foods, East Godavari which has been providing the same for Khairatabad Ganesh idol for the last four years. A portion of the laddu was earmarked for distribution and devotees including children, women and the elderly flocked for a part of the offering that went on till late in the day.
