The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Wednesday directed the Hyderabad District Collector to extend all help to the family of nine-year-old Usha, a mentally challenged girl, whose parents are struggling to raise funds for her maintenance.
The travails of Usha’s parents while seeking help were highlighted in these columns on Wednesday.
According to president of Andhra Pradesh Balala Hakkula Sangham (APBHS), Achyutha Rao, who had petitioned the SHRC on Wednesday, SHRC member K. Pedda Peri Reddy had directed the Collector to extend support and submit an action taken report.
The petitioners highlighted that Usha needed medical and educational help.
The APBHS members pointed out that the family was finding it hard to bring up the child and requested the SHRC to intervene and give directions to the district administration.
