The Government of Telangana would soon promulgate an ordinance for providing the right of way for laying pipelines of the drinking water project, water grid, to ensure speedy progress of works.

This was stated by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at a review meeting held here on Tuesday. He also named the water grid project as Telangana Drinking Water Project.

At the meeting attended by Ministers K.T. Rama Rao, T. Harish Rao and officials of the Rural Water Supply, Irrigation, Municipal Administration and Forest Departments, the Chief Minister told them to design the project in such a manner that it could become a model to the entire country. The project should meet the drinking water needs of at least next 30 years, he said.

He asked the RWS Department to take the responsibility of laying water supply pipes to households by sticking to standards in the quality of pipes. He told them to procure pipes only from the firms having manufacturing units in Telangana. The responsibility of laying pipelines, fixing joints and maintenance for 10 years should be handed over to the pipe companies, he said.

620 engineers to be recruited

Asking the authorities to conduct hydraulic tests at every level of the project work, the Chief Minister directed them to complete intake wells at least till basement level by the end of May. He took the decision of recruiting 620 engineers in the PR&RWS Department through Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC).

When the officials brought the issue of cooperation from Railways to the Chief Minister’s notice in case of diverting Godavari water to the city, he called up General Manager of the South Central Railway over phone immediately. The SCR official responded positively on the work of pipeline crossing railway track at three places.

At another review meeting conducted by Mr. Rama Rao in the RWS Engineer-in-Chief’s office the Minister directed the officials to allocate Rs.1 crore to each district for acquisition of land required for laying pipelines.
