The State government has announced enhancement of mess charges for various categories of students studying in different educational institutes in the State.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao announced the decision to enhance mess charges in the Legislative Assembly on Monday in reply to queries raised by the members during the discussion on the Appropriation Bills for the next financial year.

Accordingly, the mess charges for pre-matric students from class 3 to class 7 would be ₹950 a month in place of ₹750 charged currently. Mess charges for students from class 8 to class 10 would be raised from the existing ₹850 to ₹1,100, while students of Intermediate, Degree, and professional courses would now get ₹1,400 a month.

Making the announcement, Mr. Rao said the enhancement of mess charges would benefit close to 18 lakh students. The government would also enhance charges for student-managed hostels and other institutes.

Home Guards

The State government was also actively considering regularisation of services of Home Guards, and a decision would be taken once the high-level committee headed by the Director-General of Police, which was examining the issue, submitted its report. The government was also sympathetically considering enhancement of wages to Aasha workers, auxiliary nurse midwives, and other categories of staff, the Chief Minister added.
